BARTHE CASTLE
Remains of the Château de la Barthe, offering a nice idea for a walk with an exciting atmosphere for photo enthusiasts
Built in the 11th century, the medieval château de Labarthe overlooks the Neste and Aure valleys, and only a fraction of its splendid pebble and quartzite keep has survived. Occupied by the Viscounts of Labarthe until 1330, it changed hands several times. A victim of the Wars of Religion, Henri IV ordered its partial demolition. Rebuilt, it became a stronghold for bandits in the 17th century, before Pierre de Lassus acquired it in 1759. It's a great place to visit, especially if you're a keen photographer: the view over the valleys is just superb.
