THE IMPERIAL CHAPEL OF SAINT-SAUVEUR
This chapel in the spa district is dedicated to art, exhibitions, concerts and readings
In the early 19th century, Saint-Sauveur was a popular resort for high society spa-goers, welcoming such figures as the Duchesses of Angoulême and Berry. The banks of the river gave were adorned with English gardens, and the Rotonde, first a ballroom and then a chapel, sat in the middle. But when this became too cramped, Napoleon III commissioned his architect Boeswildwald to build a new chapel. The new chapel is still standing.
