SAINTE-MARIE CASTLE
Castle overlooking the villages of Luz-Saint-Sauveur, with view and imposing remains, defense towers, round tower and square keep
Head for the Château de Sainte-Marie, to gain altitude. The panorama is as famous as its stones. You're at an altitude of 630 m, overlooking the valleys of the Gave de Pau and Bastan rivers. Although only two defensive towers remain, a round tower and a square keep, these remains are still very imposing. They tell us more than a thousand words about medieval times in Toy country. You can reach them via Luz, Esquièze or Esterre, and only on foot. It's a beautiful walk, and well worth the effort! The château also hosts a medieval festival in summer.
