SAINT MARTIN'S CHURCH
Church of the Carolingian era, a magnificent place full of history, as much for its rich past as for the magnificence of the building
The church of the Assumption of Maubourguet, also called Saint-Martin, is a small jewel of Romanesque art which dates from the 11th century. It was the priory of the Benedictine monastery of Saint-Martin-de-Celle, the first name of the village, and changed its name during the 18th century. Following archaeological research, the site has shown traces of older occupation: a 6th century basilica, a building from the Gallo-Roman period, and a church from the Carolingian period. This place full of history is magnificent, both for its rich past and the magnificence of the building.
