SAINT-LARY HYDROELECTRIC POWER STATION
Hydroelectric power plant, perfect for an informative and exciting visit with an exhibition of playful panels
In Saint-Lary, this EDF hydroelectric power station opens its doors to the public as part of the development of industrial tourism, which generates more and more visitors. Its visit is instructive and fascinating. How does this mountain water provide us with electricity? An exhibition with playful panels and beautiful photos of illustrations give the answers to this legitimate question. The role and functioning of a hydroelectric power plant are also revealed in detail by means of videos, animated models and finally by direct observation of the turbines. Immersed in the atmosphere of the engine room, you will better understand the work and the role of the various participants on the site. The very important role of regulating the flow of the rivers is also explained, thanks to the variations in water level in the artificial reservoirs, in order to prevent the risks of flooding downstream following heavy rainfall or rapid snowmelt. The visit also allows to appreciate the titanic work of construction of such a power station, in a complicated and not very accessible environment. Finally, the numerous other hydraulic equipments present all along the Aure and Louron valleys are also described: water intakes, reservoirs, other power plants. The speakers who take part in this guided tour are not only passionate and educated, but they know how to popularize their contents for the visitors.
