FORMER ABBEY OF SAINT-SAVIN
Abbey of Saint-Savin decorated with multiple allegorical sculptures, classified as Historic Monuments, with a Roman sarcophagus
The parish church, formerly part of an influential Benedictine monastery until the French Revolution, is located in the Argelès-Gazost valley. Dating from the 12th century, it houses a rich collection of artifacts: a Romanesque sarcophagus, 15th-century paintings, a ciborium, a 14th-century wooden Christ and a Renaissance organ dating from 1557. In addition to the imposing abbey church, the chapter house, now a museum of sacred art, exhibits rare items. A remarkable historic site.
