PYRENEES NATIONAL PARK
Park for observing the evolution and behaviour of animal populations
The administrative headquarters of the Pyrenees National Park is located in Tarbes, where various departments work together to develop and implement the Park's missions. Three separate departments - "Knowledge of Natural and Cultural Heritage", "Heritage Management and Development" and "Communication" - work together to achieve the Park's objectives. Around thirty professionals are involved in defining the actions to be undertaken in this beautiful locality. Park rangers play a dual role as sworn agents responsible for the strict application of the law, with a rigorous code of conduct to be respected, while also acting as observers and educators. They observe the behavior of animals, for example, tracking isards fitted with transmitters, survey flora and analyze microclimates. This approach helps to develop environmental management adapted to local conditions. The Maison du Parc in Tarbes features exhibitions detailing the Park's various missions, and film screenings on the Park and its natural heritage are available on request. As a reception and information center, the Parc national des Pyrénées in Tarbes also offers documentation on the natural and cultural riches of the park's valleys, the refuges, and current regulations.
