THE CHESTNUT TREE OF THE NUNNERIES
The chestnut of the Nonneries is a millennial tree, inscribed in French heritage. It is located on the edge of the Route-La Meilleraye road, about 6,5 km from the village, at the level of the Hameau hamlet. A 20-metre-long, 8-metre-long,-metre round, a-children round is required to turn it into a round! This remarkable tree of the commune of Abbaretz, under which Henry IV would have rested, offers a rare example of "natural marcotage": some of its branches were rooted and gave birth to five new strong and strong trees. The chestnut died as a result of a fire that ravaged it in 1985, works to safeguard the remains and protection of the still living trees surrounding it were carried out in May 1995. You will find it on your way through the "5 treasures" hiking circuit. Please note that a picnic area is nearby.
