THE MASON'S CHAPEL
Ancient chapel dedicated to the Virgin, built by the lord of Ranrouët in Batz-sur-Mer
The Lord of Ranrouët is said to have built this chapel in recognition of his rescue from a shipwreck. A listed building, an example of flamboyant gothic, its arches bear witness to the last ogival period. It is 27 m long and 17 m wide. In the first half of the 15th century, an ancient chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary was located near the church of Saint-Guénolé. When the plague struck Batz, the salt workers made a vow to the Virgin to rebuild the chapel, which was thus rebuilt and completed in 1496. Today in ruins, it is worth a visit.
