SALT MARSHES
The salt marshes in Batz-sur-Mer are a production site in a fragile environment.
Between June and October, the salt worker harvests the salt using ancestral techniques. The commune has 459 hectares of salt marshes. To obtain salt, the water must evaporate and for that, it must circulate and heat. The water must pass through different basins. It will take the efforts of the salt worker to harvest the coarse grey salt and the flower of salt. The salt marshes are above all a place of production in an environment with a fragile ecological balance. The marshes constitute magnificent landscapes and allow the discovery of an exceptional fauna and flora.
