TRAD Y SEL

Trad Y Sel is a salt-producing company of Guerande based in Batz-sur-Mer, Loire-Atlantique. It offers an alternative economic model for independent salt producers in the Guerrilla basin, and is now the third player in Guérande's salt. Trad Y Sel is a member of the Product Charter in Brittany.

History. Originally, since the 1970 s, the sale of the majority of Guérande salt was provided by a group (the pool of salt producers) made up of producers and traders. But the arrival of a new dealer, the Midi Salins Group - a symbol of mechanized production - has changed the order of things. Also, independent miners have chosen to follow an alternative route by creating Trad Y Sel with the aim of maintaining their independence from producers, regrouping to achieve a large project and controlling the entire chain by reducing intermediaries in particular. Trad Y Sel was born in 1999 by means of malaria fighters - like Gwénaël Rio - who wanted to take charge of their fate. In addition to the seven associated producers, more than fifty other miners trust Trad Y Sel. The guerrilla basin, where the salines producing the salt of Trad Y Sel are located, spread over 1,620 hectares. The solar technique applied to it is strong in a 2,000-year-old history. Some carolingian salines are still in their original state, the most recent of the eighteenth century. They are the most northerly salines in Europe.
