The story is that the construction of the Fountain-Cap aqueduct is the work of Gilles de Rais, or Blue Beard. A young and handsome lady of Arthon promised him to love him if he succeeded in bringing the fountain water into the village. The aqueduct would then have been built overnight… Known since the 1840 s, the aqueduct has been the subject of numerous studies and excavations, as was the case in 1995-1996 when the 751 Nantes-Pornic departmental route was disconnected, and more recently in 2009 and 2010. These studies thus determined the length of the book, which reached 3 150 metres, from its water outlet located at the Fountain-Good to the level of the current church of the village, to an ensemble of ancient ruins integrating thermal baths discovered in the 1960 s. This aqueduct was built on successive arcades, of which only remains the bases (20 were found of the 74 known in the th century). In order to cross a small hill, an underground device had been set up by installing it to the bottom of a trench. The hypothesis that the aqueduct was linked to a villa, i. e. a rural area combining buildings for residential use and space related to agricultural production, has been in place for some time but remains to be confirmed.
