THE CHURCH OF THE TRINITY

The church of the Trinity is certainly the oldest church in Clisson. Proof of this is made in the records by the year 855. Originally, the priory was dependent on the Benedictine abbey of Saint-Martin-de-Prodigy. From the primitive church, there are still few remains, and it underwent profound changes during the th century. Supported against a wall of the choir, two Romanesque arcades, low-hanger, supported by three short round and stocky pillars, testify to the th century. It remains remarkable by its Romanesque architecture and its very long-standing th-century flat chevet with beautiful oak stalls, a magnificent th century altarpiece, classified, with columns of marble of different colors, surmounted by corinthians capitals. It is registered in the title of Historical Monuments by order of 18 March 1997.
