JEAN-LUC COURCOULT'S HOUSE IN THE LOIRE
This three-storey house looks like an elegant, motionless wreck
It was as part of the Biennale d'art contemporain Estuaire 2007 that the Maison flottante by Jean-Luc Courcoult, a famous artist from Nantes and creator of the Compagnie Royal de Luxe, was created in the town of Lavau. Unfortunately, the river had overwhelmed the structure of the house, which ended up being largely submerged. But no matter what, the water didn't take over the house in the Loire, which finally settled in the town of Couëron as part of the Voyage à Nantes 2012 and the third and final edition of the Biennale d'art contemporain. A permanent work of art on this route between Nantes and Saint-Nazaire, the Maison sur la Loire joins the thirty or so works in this open-air collection. Very largely with her feet in the water, this three-storey house, partly with shutters closed, looks like a beautiful sleeping beauty, an elegant and motionless wreck. Jean-Luc Courcoult likes to describe this work as "imaginary realism" because if the realization is concrete, the goal is to introduce dream into the lives of visitors. A work between land and river, facing the Estacade, which fits perfectly into this landscape of the banks of the Loire.
