A marsh known as Audubon Marsh, playing an essential role in bird breeding and migration.
The marshes of Couëron are known as the Audubon marshes. In addition to these marshes, there are the former islands of the Loire, which have kept their names but are attached to the shore: Ile de la Liberté, Ile de la Ville en Bois, Ile Thérèse,... The marsh plays an essential role in the reproduction and migration of thousands of birds, including lapwings, spoonbills, teals, avocets, grey herons, moorhens, ducks, harriers, falcons and other birds of prey. The corncrake and the white stork have made their home here.
