This building is the first castle of the Loire, from Nantes

It is the first castle of the Loire, from Nantes. It takes about ten kilometers to get there from Nantes. At the entrance, the moat, the ramparts and the archive tower are the last vestiges of the first medieval structure of the castle. As it appears today, the castle has a Renaissance appearance, made of tufa stone. Follow the guide on a tour of the decorated 16th and 17th century rooms and immerse yourself in a family history of over 1000 years. Children have the opportunity to participate in workshops and games in the museum.

Open from mid-June to mid-September, every day from 10:45 am to 7 pm. From the end of March to the beginning of November, Wednesdays, Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays and every day during school holidays, from 2pm to 6.30pm. Free for children up to 4 years old. Adults: 10,50 €. Children (from 5 to 16 years old) : 5,50 €. Open all year round for groups on reservation. Students under 26 and PRM: 7,50 €. Family pass, 32 €. Guided tour. Shop. Temporary exhibitions, "Marquis de Goulaine" Loire wines, tea room, receptions, cocktails. Holiday vouchers.

Visited in may 2024

Guided tour was detailed but a bit short. Would have liked to see more. As it happened there was a charity event for kids cancer. Lots of classic cars and stalls. Great atmosphere.
