The church of Notre-Dame-de-la-Plaine was built around the year 1000 and was the first religious centre formed by the monks of Geneston dependent on the abbey of Sainte-Marie de Pornic. The bell tower of the building, in the shape of a square tower raised by an arrow, was used as a "bitter" place for navigation before suffering numerous damages over the centuries. On March 28, 1836, a hurricane completely demolished the bell tower and weakened the structures of the rest of the church. The building was rebuilt in 1845, at the expense of the State; the municipality could not afford such an expense. The current church has a black marble font, dating from 1611.
