THE WOODEN CASTLE KNIGHT
Built in 1655 at the initiative of Olivier du Bois Chevalier, Equerry, the Deputy Mayor of Nantes in 1654-1655, this imposing castle presents a beautiful order with domes, French ceilings and numerous outbuildings that make it a model of architecture of the th century. His son Charles César Chevalier, mayor of Nantes, obtained from Louis XIV for his castle the seigneurial right of drawbridge over the moat. In 1793, the general de Charette, an emblematic character of the vendéennes insurgencies closely associated with the history of the commune, was received and gave festivals and receptions. In 1965, the castle was used to shoot the film Le Thunder de Dieu with Jean Gabin, Michèle Mercier and Robert Hossein. It remains remarkable by its architecture and its state of conservation. For the past nine years, the Festival du Bois Chevalier has been organizing an appointment around poetry and science, which has the particularity of taking part in an exceptional framework!
