THE CHAPEL OF OUR LADY OF MERCY

The building is located just a few metres from the tip of the tip of Merquel. He was the first place of worship. The chapel of the priory of Merquel was dedicated to Our Lady and Saint Gildas. It has two statues: The wooden Virgin, restored and Saint Gildas, Bishop of Noyon, famous for "making rain and beautiful weather". The chapel was destroyed by the Germans in 1944. Its walls were recorded only in 1949 and blessed by the bishop of Nantes. Decorated with frescoes by Canon Bouchaud, the choir presents a litany of children of choir and nuns around Christ in cross, vineyards and épis of wheat complete this rich décor. An ex-voto model placed during the reconstruction of the chapel recalls the maritime vocation of the small sanctuary. Note at the bedside of the choir on the outside, an original statue of the Virgin, star of the sea, will praise the sailors and their families.
