THE GALLO-ROMAN BRIDGE
Go there and contact
This bridge with four uneven arches crosses the Sanguèze river on the passage of the old Celtic road that linked Rouen to Bordeaux. It is sometimes called the Julius Caesar Bridge, although it is likely that Julius Caesar had nothing to do with it. It was partially restored in the Middle Ages, as evidenced by the presence of an ogival arch. This bridge was included in the inventory of Historic Monuments by decree dated May 14, 1925. Each pile is flanked by a spur. Downstream, this spur does not rise to the deck; upstream, on the contrary, it rises above it, which gives this Gallo-Roman bridge a very special appearance and makes it unique in the West.
