Japanese restaurant with a sober décor in Nantes claiming the traditional Japanese cuisine in its plates

There are not that many Japanese restaurants in Nantes that put the spotlight on Japanese gastronomy, far from the clichés and sushi. This is the case of Paku Paku (pronounced "Pakou pakou", the Japanese onomatopoeia for "to eat greedily"), which claims a traditional Japanese cuisine. You will find the small blue and red sign and its origami in front of the market of Talensac. The interior of the long restaurant is soberly decorated. Wooden tables and chairs, a raised counter and, at the back of the room, alcoves where you can sit on tatami mats, after removing your shoes, sheltered from view by noren, short curtains. A background of Japanese pop music adds the final touch to the change of scenery. But the journey is also lived on the plates of course. As an appetizer, let yourself be tempted by Tokoyaki, dumplings stuffed with octopus or Onigiri, rice balls wrapped in seaweed. As a main course, we advise you to try Okonomiyaki, a kind of stuffed pancake, a typical Japanese dish that has no equivalent in the West. You will also find a choice of Donburi, a bowl of rice with its filling and Udon, Japanese pasta with its filling. Finally, for dessert, you can let yourself be surprised and delighted by the amazing flavours of Matcha ice cream, green tea powder, or black sesame.
