Made famous by the identical reconstruction of one of Jules Verne's boats: the Saint-Michel II, the Nantes-based association La Cale de l'île celebrated 30 years in 2019! Formerly the Nantes Association for the preservation of maritime and river heritage, it took its name from the place where it was established, "La Cale 2 L'île". Hold 2 being a former hold of the Dubigeon shipyard that has not been used since the closure of the shipyards in 1987. It aims to promote the heritage and nautical culture by participating in events of old rigging. The association also participates in the support of people in difficulty and contributes to the development of social, educational or cultural programmes. It maintains its various boats in the yard open to the public where a member of the association will be pleased to present you the projects in progress. Enough to awaken vocations as a marine carpenter! Exits are also possible, ask around!
