HOUSE OF THE SEA DANIEL GILARD
The building that hosts the Maison de la Mer was for a century the Capainerie of the port of Nantes. He was named Daniel Gilard, a nantes browser lost at sea in 1987, who had joined the project. It serves as a forum for meetings and exchanges with seafarers and all persons or associations relating to the sea or to port activities. There are offices and meeting rooms to facilitate the coordination of joint projects, a library on education, technology, shipbuilding and maritime history. Conferences and exhibitions are also offered regularly and a prize is awarded annually to a person who has contributed to a better knowledge of the maritime, port and coastal environment and the development of activities related to these areas.
