THE POINTEAU MILITARY HERITAGE DISCOVERY TRAIL
The Pointeau site was once a strategic area for the German army during the Second World War, which is why there are so many blockhouses there. Seven interpretive panels and three general information panels on this discovery tour illustrate this historical and military heritage. Each of them deals with a specific theme: the Blockhouse House, the Bunker, the Fortress under the Dune, the Estuary Guard, the Defense of the Coast... An informative and pleasant stroll by the sea. During the Second World War, Saint-Brévin-les-Pins was badly damaged. The war lasted 9 months longer in Saint-Brévin-les-Pins (from August 1944 to 11 May 1945) than in the rest of France: this was the episode known as the "Poche de Saint-Nazaire". It is also possible to discover the site in a different way during occasional exhibitions and small concerts organised in the "bunker". Or how to combine history and culture.
