THE ABBEY CHURCH
Go there and contact
Church dating from the end of the century in Saint-Gildas-des-Bois, typical of the Breton Renaissance.
Its portal, its unity of style, the warmth of the material, its altarpieces, its wrought iron gate make it one of the most beautiful in the Nantes region. It dates from the end of the 12th century. The entrance porch is remarkable, as is the large 15th century glass roof, typical of the Breton Renaissance. The masterpiece of the rood screen is the superb gate called the Choir of the Monks fence (1711). The modern stained glass windows are inspired by medical photographs of insane children taken at the end of the 19th century for scientific purposes. The abbey of Saint-Gildas-des-Bois disappeared in 1790.
