Discover the Mazerolles marshes, a landscape of canals located in Saint-Mars-du-Désert.
With a surface area of 1,000 ha, the diversity of habitats, ideal for nesting, wintering and feeding, has earned the Mazerolles marshes the Grand Site National label. To the north, the dyked marsh contrasts with the untamed southern marsh, with its reed beds, ponds and islands. Criss-crossed by numerous canals, the dried marsh is exploited for agricultural purposes, and is France's2nd-largest peat extraction site. The site's main attraction is its ornithological value. A total of 138 species have been recorded, including 56 nesting species such as the Common Snipe.
