Discover the Mazerolles marshes, a landscape of canals located in Saint-Mars-du-Désert.
Covering an area of 1,000 hectares, the variety of habitats suitable for nesting, wintering and feeding birds has earned the Mazerolles marshes the status of Grand Site National. To the north, the dyked marsh contrasts with the wild marsh to the south, rich in reed beds, ponds and islands. Criss-crossed by numerous canals, the drained marsh is cultivated: it's the second-largest peat extraction site in France. Its main asset: its ornithological biodiversity, with 138 species listed, including 56 that breed, such as the common snipe.
