NOTRE-DAME-DE-LA-CHAUME ABBEY
An abbey created in the century, hosting numerous events, old car shows and piano concerts
Founded in the xie century by Harscoët de Rais, this abbey depended on Saint-Sauveur-de-Redon. In the Middle Ages, it was one of the most important abbeys in the Country of Retz. Abandoned during the Revolution, the site was gradually dismantled, becoming a career for the supply of construction materials. In 1990, a backup association began its rehabilitation, releasing the walls and finding the foundations. Today, however, the site's visit allows us to discover the foundations of the walls of the walls surrounding the abbey and, above all, the eighteenth century pigeon tree that was restored by the association. It is the symbolic element of the former seigneurial power and includes 600 nest boxes. Many animations allow everyone to visit the abbey in its own way… A piano concert in the greenery theater, a stopover on a hike, the exhibition of old cars during the Heritage Days and even a Easter egg hunt.
