Built in 1881, the contemporary Gothic church replaced the Romanesque church originally built in the xiiith century in the late nineteenth century. Its reconstruction began in 1863 and ended in 1881 with the laying of the two arrows culminating at 62.14 and 60.53 meters. It was said that the priest Lavigne, who collected a sufficient sum to endow the church with three neves, had his project approved for two arrows. This immediately gave the church of the ancient capital of the duchy of the duchy an impressive look of cathedral, which continues to strike all the eyes of visitors to Machecoul. There is a former armory armorified to the octagonal vat from the chapel of the castle of Machecoul, a sculpted sandlière dating back to the XIII-xve century. Above the altar is suspended a reproduction of a Russian icon: The Three Angels at the table of Abraham (1408). The church has recently benefited from cleaning and restoration of its exterior facades. The church is visited in the framework of La Machecoulaise (guided tour of the tourist office).
