THE HISTORICAL FRESCO OF ARMAND PAVAGEAU
Created in 1946 by the artist Armand Pavageau, this fresco is composed of several paintings referring to 27 scenes relating the historical events of Machecoul. For two months, Armand Pavageau designed, in a room at Saint-Joseph College, the typical plans for his future fresco on kraft paper. He then drew, using stencils, the outline of the subjects, to finally paint with a brush and a small roller the content of the characters and motifs. A mason assisted the artist in fixing the work with oily lime. The fresco contains inaccuracies, gross errors of dates and unfortunate historical interpretations, but it provides those concerned with a splendid visual summary of the city's history. Previously located in the former Saint-Honoré cinema, the fresco is now on display in the Hall des Fresques, the entrance hall to the new cinema renovated in 2008, the Cinémachecoul.
