A site dating from 819, offering visits to discover the remarkable nave and its cruciform pillars as well as the crypt.
Dating from 819, the abbey church of Saint-Philbert houses the body of Saint Philibert, from whom the commune takes its name. While it was used in the 19th century as a covered market, excavations unearthed the saint's sarcophagus, which led to the building being classified as a historical monument in 1896. The building has been a place of worship again since 1936, and is today one of the most important monuments in the Retz region. The visit allows to discover the remarkable nave and its cruciform pillars combining brick and tuff, the choir and the Carolingian ambulatory, as well as the crypt which contains the sarcophagus of Saint Philibert, in Merovingian style. You will also be able to walk in the garden of singles, and discover its medicinal plants. The site is the scene of many events, guided tours, exhibitions, concerts, themed events ... Meeting point between the river Boulogne and the town, it is also the starting point for many walks in the heart of the natural heritage of the town and surrounding areas.
