The castle of Thouaré presents a frontage mixing elements of different periods, and registered with the Historical Monuments.
The origins of the castle of Thouaré-sur-Loire date back to the 10th century. The most famous owner was Anne Descartes, half-sister of the famous philosopher. The facade of the castle is a mixture of elements of different periods: the crenellations of the Middle Ages, the lantern tower of the Renaissance, or the double mullioned windows of the second half of the nineteenth. Its dovecote, a privilege of the nobility, dates from the 15th century and has been listed as a historic monument since 1982. It is a private castle, but the dovecote can be visited during the Heritage Days.
