In this house, General Vendéen Charles de Bonchamps died of his war wounds at the age of 33, on 18 October 1793, after pardoned 5000 republican prisoners held in Saint-Florent-le-Vieux. At present, the Maison House is an art exhibition room like painting, sculpture… These two rooms are open every year for 6 months, from 1 May to 31 October, for painting, sculpture and photography exhibitions.

Le hasard nous a conduit à cet endroit, après avoir obtenu des renseignements à l’office de tourisme au sujet des Guerres de Vendée. Ce musée se trouve le long de la Loire dans un petit village rue de la Basse Meilleraie à Varades. Attention aux jours et horaires d’ouverture : renseignement à l’ O.T.
Dans cet endroit est mort le général Bonchamps, le 18 octobre 1793, militaire Français et commandant de l’armée Vendéenne. Son tombeau se trouve dans l'abbatiale de Saint-Florent-le-Vieil.
La maison comporte deux étages consacrés aux expositions de peinture, sculpture, photos etc …
Visiter aussi le musée de Saint Florent très riche en histoire de la ville et de la région.
