BISCUITS BN
Like the big smile on its biscuit packages, the BN brand evokes a happy childhood memory. Present at snack time for several generations, its biscuits are strongly rooted in the French way of eating. The brand's flagship products are certified by Origine France garantie.
History. The brand was created in 1896 by traders. It was dissolved in 1897 and subsequently taken over by Pierre Cossé and Pierre Pelletreau. That's when the story of "la BN" really begins with its first biscuit, the Petit Breton, and pastries such as madeleines, wafers, boudoirs and macaroons. In 1902, following a devastating fire that led to the complete reconstruction of the biscuit factory, André Lotz replaced Pierre Pelletreau as partner. In 1914, the NL was requisitioned to produce war bread, the "hard bread". This will give birth to the famous BN Casse-Croûte, an economical and nutritious biscuit that is highly prized by workers and schoolchildren. In 1933, the fact of spreading a biscuit with chocolate inspired the manufacture of the brand's best-seller: the Choco'Cas Croûte (which we will call Choco BN from 1952), the assembly of two biscuits with spread. In the 1960s, the product range was extended with the first fruit BNs (strawberry, apricot, cherry and blackcurrant). The last significant date was probably 1992 with the appearance of two round eyes and a mischievous face on each biscuit. The face of the brand was born.
The Biscuiterie Nantaise was historically located in Nantes, today it is located in Vertou. It belonged to the British group United Biscuits from 1997 to 2014, when the brand was acquired by the Turkish holding company Yildiz for €2.5 billion.
The products. In addition to Snack Cakes, and its filled biscuits, the brand produces tarts, tablets and coated biscuits for breakfast.
Employment. It has 450 employees who produce 80,000 tonnes of biscuits each year for a turnover of 80 million euros.
