Traditional local cuisine from chef Bruno Besnard in a superb restaurant in Angers.
Gourmet, traditional and local cuisine: that's what chef Bruno Besnard offers at this long-established Angevine establishment. In a cream-colored, country-inspired decor, starters include saithe with smoked filet or crispy duck with chorizo emulsion. The rest of the menu will delight fish and meat lovers alike, with a filet of pike-perch with beurre blanc, a back of cod with thyme sauce, a solid entrecote steak or (rare enough to mention) a home-made cassoulet. The dish of the day, duck aiguillettes with foie gras sauce, accompanied by a pan-fried potato, mushrooms and peppers, also left a lasting impression. We're praying to see it back on the menu one day, and just as well, since the cathedral is just across the street! Finally, why not finish with the famous Bouse de Vache? Don't worry, it's a great profiterole! Weaknesses: a few rather high prices. Strengths: ultra-efficient service and great portions.
