SAINT-SERGE CHURCH
Church with elegant, luminous choir, a fine example of Anjou Gothic style
Saint-Serge Abbey, founded in the 7th century by King Clovis II, came under the control of the kings of Brittany, who deposited there the relics of Saint Brieuc, still visible today. It was a popular place for pilgrims, who also venerated the relics of St. Sergius and St. Bach. But it is above all its elegant, luminous 13th-century choir that makes it so famous. A fine example of the apogee of Angevin Gothic, it features fine ribs falling on slender columns, picturesque carvings and painted keystones.
