RONCERAY ABBEY
Abbey, founded in the century, with a beautiful abbey church hosting exhibitions and events in the historic Doutre district.
Founded in the 10th century and rebuilt until the 16th century, this abbey church in the heart of the historic Doutre district is well worth a visit for its superb arched halls alone. An ideal setting for art exhibitions. The common name "Ronceray", used for convenience, comes from the brambles entwining the foot of a statue of the Virgin Mary found in the crypt in 1527. While the abbey church is used by the town for exhibitions, concerts and festivals, the former buildings are still occupied by religious congregations.
