History. In 1862, Göran Göransson Fredrik founded Högbo Stål and Jernwerks AB in Sweden to produce the highest quality steel, paving the way for the Bessemer process. In 1886, he perfected the production of high-performance saw blades with a cut worthy of exceptional steel, exceeding the expectations of users around the world. In the same year, Johan Petter Johansson founded his company, Enköpings Mekaniska Verkstad, also in Sweden. Johansson was an intelligent and creative craftsman and, in 1888, obtained his first patent for what he called "the iron hand" - now more commonly known as the pipe wrench. Johansson's idea was to replace fixed wrenches with a single tool that, like a human hand, would be able to grip nuts and bolts of different sizes. The next patent dates back to 1891 for the very first adjustable wrench. The latter is the origin of the wrench - a Swedish invention now used all over the world. In 1890, Berndt August Hjorth acquired the sales and marketing rights to Enköpings Mekaniska Verkstad products. His exceptional entrepreneurial skills formed the basis for the international company that would become Bahco. In 1916, Berndt August Hjorth bought Enköpings Mekaniska Verkstad in its entirety from Johan Petter Johansson, who became part of BA Hjorth & Co. and shortened its name to create the name Bahco.
