THE SCULPTURE CELLAR
The sculpture cellar, featuring hundreds of figures carved in the round and sculpted into the falun walls.
We'd like to thank the "Sauvegarde du patrimoine denézéen" association for allowing us to visit this unique work of art, listed as a Monument Historique and executed between the 16th and 18th centuries. The secrets of this cavern are first revealed in a film shown in an adjoining room. We then descend into the cellar, (re)discovered in 1956. Hundreds of characters, carved directly into the cavern walls, intertwine to form a large sculpted comic strip. Its origin is still a matter of debate.
