PLESSIS-MACÉ CASTLE
Castle with flamboyant gothic balcony and chapel with oak gallery, festival and animations on site
The château du Plessis-Macé, with its sturdy 12th-century walls and towers, is dominated by the imposing ruins of a 15th-century keep. Once through the postern, facing the long outbuildings is a pleasure dwelling built in 1450 by Louis de Beaumont, advisor to Louis XI. The eye is immediately drawn to the remarkably well-preserved, carved tufa balcony - a magnificent example of the flamboyant Gothic style - which stands out against the schist. Charles-Victor Langlois and his family restored the château during the 20th century, before his heirs donated it to the Département. The interior is handsomely furnished and features beautiful tapestries. The chapel houses an authentic oak tribune over 500 years old. For children, numerous activities are organized on the site: workshops, strolls... and for adults: escape games, murder parties... as well as different types of visits. In June, the site hosts theatrical performances as part of the Festival d'Anjou.
