HOTHOUSE CASTLE
Renaissance castle with moat, park, Versailles chapel, furniture collection, hosts events
Welcome to the most princely of the Loire castles, as Napoleon called it. You will discover here a jewel built between the 16th and 17th centuries in the late Renaissance style; only the moat remains of the medieval castle. However, it seemed to be in a bad way since the prince of the time, in the grip of serious financial difficulties, had only been able to build the north tower and half of the dwelling. Today, however, its walls contain an impressive collection of furniture, precious objects, works of art, hangings and tapestries that bear witness to the daily life of its inhabitants over the centuries. Specialists estimate that it is one of the best furnished castles in France! From the basements to the kitchens, including the bedroom of the Duchess of Tremoille and the sumptuous library listed as a historical monument, each room is a rare gem! In these places were received great names of History: Marie-Christine of Austria, Napoleon I and his wife Josephine, or the Duchess of Berry. You can admire a beautiful park in the English style, or come to attend the many events organized: plays, treasure hunts, role-playing games ... The sumptuous 18th century orangery welcomes seminars and receptions. To take full advantage of the castle's heritage and admire as many masterpieces as possible, we recommend a guided tour. In the park, the "Versaillaise" chapel houses the mausoleum of the Marquis de Vaubrin sculpted by Coysevox.
