ROUGE SAFRAN
Saffron Rouge Safran settled in Lucq-de-Béarn in 2009. Rouge Safran is the only saffron plantation in Béarn. Everything is done by hand here, from planting the bulbs to harvesting. Human intervention only manifests itself in weeding, no fertilizers or pesticides are used in this production! The grubbing-up is done between June and July and the planting between July and August for flowering in October. The precious pistils, after drying in the oven (last step of the preparation) are put in jars or used in preparations. You can find saffron honey, Salies salt with saffron, crunchy salted caramel biscuits, aperitif biscuits, jam or jurançon jelly with saffron and saffron syrups. All these products are available for sale. Of course, you can buy the filaments alone to use them in your kitchen. They can be kept for three years in an airtight box away from light. In addition, it is possible to reserve crocus sativus bulbs all year round to see life in red, saffron of course.
