THE CITADELLA
Citadel built from 1598 to 1622 under the impulse of Henri IV in order to reinforce the northern border of the kingdom.
Located on the remains of fortifications from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, the Citadel was built from 1598 to 1622 at the instigation of Henry IV with the aim of reinforcing the northern border of the kingdom. Little known to the people of Amiens, a visit, especially along the ramparts, allows you to discover a place with many historical, architectural and landscape assets. Today, the Citadel is the headquarters of the University of Picardy Jules Verne. Nearly 5,000 students study in this renovated monument. The ambitious transformation project was carried out by Renzo Piano, the famous Italian architect who designed the Georges Pompidou Centre... nothing less!
