An open-air theater in the heart of the Archbishopric! Before becoming the stage of reference for the International Festival of Lyric Art, it was used to accommodate the carriages in the service courtyard of the Archbishop's Palace. Its double-revolution grand staircase, its vaults and its wings dating respectively from the Middle Ages and the 17th century make it one of the jewels of Aix's heritage. Today, this theater, renovated in 1998, is composed of a 7 meters deep stage, mobile sets and an Italian-style machinery. For the past 60 years, it has welcomed prestigious lyrical artists from all over the world to perform works by Mozart, Rossini, Stravinsky or even modern creations.
