The Aix Conservatory of Music was founded in 1849. It moved from its ancestral home in the Hôtel de Caumont to its new premises. The Conservatoire Darius Milhaud has since taken up residence: 7,000 m², 62 classrooms and 20 rooms for individual or group practice. The building was designed by Japanese architect Kengo Kuma, with origami as its inspiration. Located close to the Pavillon Noir and Théâtre de Provence, it strengthens Aix's new cultural hub, and also houses two drama classrooms and 4 dance studios. The Conservatoire d'Aix has 90 teaching staff, over 1,200 students and the opportunity to practice almost every instrument and every musical discipline, including contemporary, jazz, classical and baroque. Plus: a beautiful 500-seat auditorium for free concerts and masterclasses.
