MANSIONS OF THE OLD AIX
More than 150 private mansions tell the story of Aix, its great families, its architects...
The town center is home to over 150 mansions built by the great families of Aix between the 16th and 18th centuries. For example, at the top of Cours Mirabeau, the Hôtel du Poët with its mascaron façade, at number 38, and the Hôtel Maurel de Pontevès with its atlantes, at number 9 rue du 4 Septembre. Most of these residences are concentrated in the Mazarin district: the Hôtel Villeneuve d'Ansouis with its corbelled wrought-iron balconies, at 3 rue Joseph Cabassol, the Hôtel de Caumont, renovated as an art center, and at 6 rue Espariat, the Hôtel Boyer d'Éguilles with its beautiful interior courtyard.
