On the Plateau plateau, the site was built over the centuries around a salyen oratory revered by the most important Gallic tribes. In the 1555 th century a chapel was erected, and then large families settled and deeply remanièrent the area in 1840 and then in. The city became owner of the premises in 1990 and therefore began its rehabilitation and recovery. The Domaine du Grand Saint-Jean is today one of the most remarkable architectural and landscaping estates in Aix-en-Provence. It houses a castle, a bergerie, green spaces and cultures. Since 1999, its outdoor theatre welcomes every summer several performances of the Festival of Lyrical Art. A structure is mounted in the castle of honour of the castle which can accommodate up to spectators. The CPIE - Permanent Centre for Environmental Initiation - from the Country of Aix has been in the Domaine du Grand Saint-Jean since 2001. A place of choice for a valuable association. The buildings are not accessible to the public except for the heritage days in September. However, in the beautiful days, large meadows facing the area and free access are the joy of the Aix who come to the family. It is also the starting point for walking or cycling, on forest tracks that follow a bucolic canal. A pleasant environment where you can relax.
