ARPA
For more than thirty years, this association has had the objective of restoring and respecting the heritage of Aix and the Aix region. It was founded by two friends: Jean-Pierre Couëlle, master builder and mason from an old Aix family, sorry to see his city deteriorate, and Pierre Lavallez, building engineer. Since then, they have been joined by hundreds of volunteers who are involved in the preservation and rehabilitation of old Aix. They are as many watchmen who alert individuals and communities to buildings in danger. Little by little, they list the heritage treasures, conduct historical research, encourage and monitor workcamps. They affix commemorative or indicative plaques on churches and other buildings, restore wooden doors or oratories... Today, they are 200 members and about fifteen active people travel to work sites. We owe ARPA the rescue of the Logis du Bras d'Or, at the bottom of the Cours Sextius, which was doomed to destruction a dozen years ago, but also the renovation of the door of the Saint-Sauveur Cathedral... They regularly publish works, and also organize many conferences with writers from the Aix region for instance.
