Aix-en-Provence is a city brimming with things to do and discover. For starters, it's a good idea to visit the city with an enthusiastic guide, who will show you all its attractions, heritage, architecture and monuments. You can also visit Cézanne's workplaces, including his studio, his family home and the Musée Granet, where some of his works are exhibited. And don't miss a visit to the Centre d'Art de l'Hôtel de Caumont, an 18th-century jewel, which presents temporary exhibitions dedicated to the great names in art every year. For gourmets, calisson, an Aix-en-Provence specialty made from candied almonds and melons, is not to be missed. You'll find them in the city's confectionery shops. Strolling through the old town is also a must, with its lively streets, fountains and mansions. The Musée Granet, one of France's finest museums, houses a collection of works ranging from the 14th to the 20th century, with artists such as Rembrandt, Ingres and, of course, Cézanne. Aix-en-Provence's markets, held every day of the week, are also worth a visit for their local produce and lively atmosphere. Last but not least, the city offers a wealth of shopping opportunities, with fashion, home decoration and souvenir boutiques, as well as renowned patisseries. Aix-en-Provence's nightlife is equally lively, with casinos, cinemas, discotheques and numerous bars and pubs.
