PLACE D'ALBERTAS
A unique place in the tangle of Aix-en-Provence streets.
In 1724, Marquis Henri Reynaud d'Albertas, jealous of his neighbor, parliamentary councillor Jean-Baptiste Boyer d'Eguilles, and his hotel with a forecourt in front, renovated and embellished his private mansion. Destroying the houses in front, his son laid out a square bordered by a series of uniform buildings. At its center is a fountain, first in stone then in cast iron, donated in 1912 by the Ecole des Arts et Métiers. Listed as a historic monument in 2000, the calade and fountain are currently being renovated to the delight of onlookers.
