FÊTE DES GARDIANS
More than a festival, it is the spirit of the gardians and the Camargue that explodes in Arles in a malström of colours and sounds.
Thousands of people gather in Arles at 9am for this day-long celebration of the gardians from all over the Camargue, under the patronage of Saint Georges. The program includes a parade, a blessing of the riders, a high mass in Provençal and a show in the arena, during which the gardians take part in a crazy race for the cockade. On this day, the Queen of Arles is elected and dressed as an Arlésienne from head to toe. The whole day is one hell of a show! Not to be missed if you want to capture the festive spirit of this region.
